New DC Studios president James Gunn has already made some sweeping changes to the DC movie landscape, but it seems at least three existing characters will return. Gunn made headlines when he essentially fired Henry Cavill as Superman and revealed a third Wonder Woman project won't be moving forward either. The first project to move ahead is the animated series Creature Commandos, debuting on Max next year, followed by Superman: Legacy, with David Corenswet as Superman and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, hitting theaters in July 2025. Gunn jumped on social media yesterday and confirmed three existing DCEU characters will continue in his new DC Universe canon. He confirmed on Threads that, “Xolo Maridueña will continue playing Blue Beetle in the DCU, as Viola Davis will Amanda Waller, and John Cena will Peacemaker.”
