Yesterday, a drug dealer from Brooklyn admitted to providing fentanyl-laced heroin to Michael K. Williams, an actor known for his role in The Wire, which resulted in his death. Irvin Cartagena pleaded guilty in Manhattan federal court to a drug distribution conspiracy charge. On August 18, US District Judge Ronnie Abrams will sentence Cartagena to a mandatory minimum of five years in prison, with the possibility of up to 40 years. Williams, who also starred in Boardwalk Empire and other films and TV series, overdosed in his Brooklyn penthouse apartment in September 2021. Law enforcement officials revealed that he died after purchasing the heroin from Cartagena on a Brooklyn street, and the transaction was caught on camera.
