Leonardtown, MD – Because of continuing effects of Hurricane Florence, the St. Mary’s County Museum Division is changing its operating schedule for the upcoming weekend.
Piney Point Lighthouse Museum & Historic Park is currently closed until further notice due to high waters. Floodwaters have the potential of going higher during and after the storm event. The Division hopes to reopen Piney Point sometime next week after flood waters have receded.
St. Clement’s Island Museum in Colton’s Point will be open for normal operating hours. However, the water taxi service has been cancelled this weekend due to high waters and potentially high winds. The Division hopes to resume normal water taxi service the weekend of September 22 - 23.
Rising waters have damaged the piers on St. Clement’s Island State Park. Private craft hoping to visit the island may not be able to access the park during this time due to the damage and flooding on the island itself.
