President Biden found motivation in the latest Mission: Impossible movie, prompting swift action to counter the growing threats posed by Artificial Intelligence (AI). On Monday, he signed an executive order hoping to strike a delicate balance between advancing cutting-edge technology and safeguarding national security and consumer rights. During a weekend at Camp David, Biden watched Tom Cruise's “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One” with Deputy White House chief of staff Bruce Reed. Reed noted that Biden’s apprehensions about AI were significantly amplified by the film. In the Mission: Impossible movie, the antagonist is a sentient and rogue AI named “the Entity,” which ruthlessly sinks a submarine and claims the lives of its crew within the first few minutes. Reed revealed in an interview: “If he hadn't already been concerned about what could go wrong with AI before that movie, he saw plenty more to worry about.”
